Great (GREAT) White... Givenchy Spring 2012

So, I really love Ricardo Tisci, not just his design talent, but I happen to think he is incredibly cool (he hangs out with Kanye West, AND Mariacarla Boscano... COOL!), and really cute. He always seems so happy to be doing what he is doing, and after reports surfaced that he declined the, still unfilled position at Christian Dior, he seems to be loyal to his fans, as he would probably be edited more at Dior than he is at Givenchy.

His spring 2012 collection for Givenchy was inspired by the ocean. He went about showing us that in not only the obvious ways (shark fin extensions on the front of jackets, and HUGE shark tooth necklaces), but also by adding eel, and sharkskin trims in place of the typical leather. It translated beautifully. Gone were the cute, fun gimmicks, the hipster accents, and cartoon prints, and in their place were beautifully cut suits, second skin pants, and technologically advanced accents! There were sequins created from laser cut chiffon on sheer little black dresses, and peplums trimmed in eel, as well as the aforementioned shark skin. The tuxedo jackets in that dusty pink varied in lengths, but the structure was the same in the cropped versions, as in the long sleeveless ones. He translated a lot of the techniques he had been experimenting with in the Givenchy Couture

This collection showed the world that Tisci isn't just a hip guy dressing cool girls, but he is worthy of the title "Couturier". The entire collection is up at Style.com, with some really great detail shots! Head Over and check them out!

PS, I really, REALLY want that shark tooth necklace in silver... Just FYI...
